Quiet Day

Well the weather predictions came true, we hit 105° today. It was over 90° by mid-morning and is still hanging around 100° at 6:15 at night. Needless to say, we avoided being outside for most of the day, even if it is a dry heat.
Had a nice slow morning then drove a road we haven’t yet, just south of the Badlands and then across the Buffalo Gap Grasslands north into the Badlands. The number of Prairie Dogs in this area is astounding! They were apparently unfazed by the heat and were scampering around as if it a normal day (maybe it is for them). We headed northwest though the Badlands and up to Wall to do some indoor shopping at Wall Drug. We did see the World’s Largest Jackalope on the way through town. After a successful shopping trip, we decided to treat ourselves to a Dairy Queen Blizzard, just to stay hydrated!
Drove some dirt roads back into the northern Grasslands then the Badlands. Saw a few Bison (apparently most moved someplace cooler for the day), a few Pronghorn Antelope and plenty more Prairie Dogs.
Headed back to the air-conditioned camper for a light supper and to wait to see if the temperature will drop enough to head out tonight.
