Cobalt, Where all the silver comes from!

We packed up camp and headed north to the town of Cobalt. This is the town where 9 out of 10 of Donna’s grandfather George’s brothers and sisters were born (including George). We’re staying in a nice campground about 15 miles out of town right on Lake Timiskaming. After getting setup we decided head into Cobalt and begin looking at some of the historic sites on 'The Heritage Silver Trail'.
The first site we visited was the site of the original O’Brien Mine which later became the Northern Customs Concentrator site. This is where George’s dad worked and the family lived. Most of the homes in the area are gone, but a few remain, so perhaps we saw the house George was born in.
We then visited a few other abandoned mines and processing plants, the whole time on the lookout for cool looking rocks. We might just have collected a few specimens to see if they are florescent. Looks like Donna may have hit the jackpot and has a stone that appears to glow brilliant red-orange, we’ll find out more when it gets darker.
Did some blueberry and raspberry picking along the way, the blueberries are tiny but taste amazing. Hope to do some more picking tomorrow when we drive the rest of the 'The Heritage Silver Trail’. We’ll be starting the day by doing a mine tour and visiting the Mining Museum and going through their archives looking for any info on the Schmeler Family.
