Slow Start

We had a bit of a slow start this morning, got all packed up and when I went to start the truck to hook up, it wouldn’t start 😦
Tried some simple things, but it seemed like the battery was ok, just a click and nothing. Figured the starter was stuck or failed. Went to the campground building looking for someone who knew more about trucks than me (which is next to nothing). None of the campground hosts were any better than me, but the one suggested trying to jump it just to see if it kicks the starter. Got the cables hooked and voila, started right up. We headed into Thunder Bay and found a Canadian Tire, where they tested my battery. While it had 12 volts, the cranking amps was down to less than 1/2 of what they should have been. Since the battery was 9 years old (never think about it since it always worked), it was time to replace it. I had my own tools, so changed it out in the parking lot. Started right up with the new battery, and has worked fine all day.
However all that put us like 2 hours off schedule and meant we wouldn’t have a lot of time to visit all the waterfalls we hoped to stop at. We decided to have lunch at one of the waterfalls, inside a Minnesota State Park. To get a day sticker I had to use their app, but the park was in an area without cell service, so no pass and no waterfall. Decided to just drive and enjoy the beautiful views of Lake Superior. We’ve seen it four different days and it’s been amazingly calm every time. Almost no waves today, but beautiful bright blue skies and water as far as you could see.
Big news of the day is we saw a mink on the road (yes, we’re sure), and a few minutes later a deer family, Mom and two fawns.
Drove through Duluth heading to our campground in Cloquet (just outside of town).
After setting up we headed into town for a bit of sightseeing (see the photos), some grocery shopping and getting gas.
Tomorrow we’re back in Wisconsin!
